MEET LAURA
Artist Bio
A sense of place lies at the heart of Laura’s practice. Having lived between Zimbabwe, England, and Australia, she draws on layered cultural and environmental experiences that shape both her perspective and her work.
Laura’s finished works range from richly textured canvases to playful watercolours, unified by a focus on colour, form, and sensory depth. Ultimately, her muse is the natural world - waves, shifting light, birdsong, and the quiet rhythms of place. Her art is both a response to and a reverence for these moments, preserving their beauty as spaces of reflection and solace.
Laura has an Honours Degree in Fine Art from the University for the Creative Arts, UK and a Post Graduate Certificate in Art & Design Education from the University of London. She has worked in galleries and schools, and contributes to numerous community art projects, including restorations, murals, and festivals. In 2017, Laura founded ‘ARTime’, a creative platform offering art commissions, classes and workshops. She continues to exhibit and sell her artwork internationally while delivering art programs across Sydney and the Illawarra.
Now based in the Royal National Park, immersion in the landscape fuels her process. Walking, swimming, photographing, and sketching allow Laura to observe and gather moments of quiet wonder, which become the emotional anchors of her work. Her paintings emerge from instinct and spontaneity, expressing something deeper than what is seen - where memory and imagination meet.
Colour, for Laura, is energy. She seeks to create artworks that transport viewers to their own “memory of place.” Laura moves fluidly between impressionism and abstraction, regularly working ‘en plein air’ with acrylics, watercolours, oils, mixed media and often improvises with whatever materials she has within reach at the time. These experiments with unexpected material combinations reflect the delicate balance of elements in nature.
